Providence St. Vincent Medical Center Cath Lab
What is the size of your cath lab facility and number of staff members?
St. Vincent’s cath lab has seven rooms, one of which is a digital operating suite, shared with the cardiovascular operating room (CVOR). Of the remaining six rooms:
• one is a neuro/bi-plane room;
• three are dedicated to cardiac procedures;
• one is a Philips Allura Xper FD20 (Bothell, WA) used for peripheral cases, with the capability to also do cardiac procedures;
• one is used for both cardiac and peripheral procedures as a dual-plane room.
An outpatient cath lab affiliated with the hospital is also located nearby.
WakeMed Health and Hospitals
WakeMed is an 804-bed private, not-for-profit health care system based in Raleigh, North Carolina. It operates two acute care hospitals (WakeMed Raleigh Campus and WakeMed Cary Hospital), two healthplexes (WakeMed North and WakeMed Apex), two skilled nursing facilities, a home health agency, three dedicated outpatient facilities, four collaborative outpatient rehabilitation programs located inside area YMCAs, and WakeMed Faculty Physicians, a multi-specialty physician practice. It is a leader in both Wake County and the state in developing innovative services to meet the needs of its community and the region.
South Carolina Heart Center
What is the size of your cath lab staff and facility?
South Carolina Heart Center is a freestanding outpatient facility, privately owned by our physician partners. We have 24 cardiologists; six are interventionalists. South Carolina Heart Center has 3 cath labs, one of which is a dual lab for both peripheral and cardiac procedures. We have 15 private and family-friendly patient rooms where pre and post procedures occur. We employ 11 full-time staff and 3 part-time staff: 2 full-time registered nurses (RNs), 2 medical assistants, 4 cardiovascular technologists (CVTs), 3 part-time RNs, and 1 administrative assistant. Years of service range from 1 to 14 years, with 8 years being the average time spent working in the cath lab.
Our facility also houses a 64-slice CT scanner, nuclear medicine department, clinical research, as well as a clinical area for physician office visits.

Frederick Memorial Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Lab
What is the size of your cath lab staff and facility?
The cath lab at Frederick Memorial Healthcare System is a new department, approved by the Maryland Healthcare Commission to perform primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) as of March 14, 2008. Until a permanent structure is built, we are currently renting a modular catheterization lab through Modular Devices Inc. (MDI) of Indianapolis, Indiana, which is giving the hospital time to make crucial long-term decisions regarding the construction and design of the new, permanent cath lab within the next two years.
We currently have 9 full-time and 2 part-time staff members:
• 4 full-time registered nurses (RNs);
• 1 part-time RN;
• 4 full-time radiologic registered technologists (RTs);
• 1 part-time RT;
• We also have 1 full-time RN who is dedicated to the task of data collection.
New York Methodist Hospital
What is the size of your cath lab facility and number of staff members?
New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) currently has three cath labs. Our third and newest lab opened in July 2007. NYM has two prep/recovery areas, giving us a total bed capacity of 20 beds. Twenty-five cardiologists perform procedures in our labs; seventeen of them are interventional cardiologists. We also have cardiac fellows. Our staffing complement consists of one interventional coordinator, six physicians’ assistants (PAs), one nurse manager, 14 registered nurses (RNs), one invasive cardiac radiological specialist (radiologic technologist, or RT), three cardiovascular technologists (CVTs), three medical assistants and one unit secretary.
Staff members have been employed in our cath lab anywhere from three months to 6 years.

Center for Cardiovascular Medicine (CCVM)
What is the size of your cath lab facility and number of staff members?
Currently, the Center for Cardiovascular Medicine (CCVM) is operating with five cath labs, one of which is a dedicated electrophysiology (EP) lab. Our cath lab staff mix is 1 registered cardiovascular invasive specialist (RCIS), 6 registered radiologic technologists [RT(R)s], and 9 registered nurses (RNs). Two nurses are dedicated EP personnel. Our pre/post holding area has 12 beds and is staffed daily by 4 RNs, 2 CVAs, volunteers and a unit secretary. This is where cardioversions, transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), and tilt table tests are performed. Eight invasive cardiologists and one vascular surgeon utilize our labs.
The cath lab services our four-hospital system and also other hospitals within Westmoreland, and part of Fayette and Indiana County. The CCVM is located at Westmoreland Regional Hospital in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Borgess Medical Center
What is the size of your cath lab facility and number of staff members?
Borgess Medical Center’s cardiac catheterization laboratory in Kalamazoo, Michigan consists of 6 labs, 4 single-plane digital labs, 1 dual cardiac/peripheral lab, 1 bi-plane electrophysiology lab, a 3-bed holding room, and a 35-bed prep/recovery area.
Staff consists of:
• 1 medical director
• 1 cath lab director
• 1 cardiac information systems director
• 43 professional registered nurses (RNs)
• 5 registered invasive cardiac specialists (RCISs)
• 3 registered radiology technologists (RT[R]s)
• 3 exercise physiologists

The North Shore Medical Center (NSMC)-Salem cardiac catheterization laboratory is located in Salem, Massachusetts. The NSMC-Salem is a diverse community teaching hospital that is a member of Partners HealthCare, an integrated healthcare delivery system.
