The Mount Sinai Medical Center
Tell us about your cath lab.
There are a total of 6 cath rooms in our cath lab, with one room dedicated to pediatric cardiology. We have 2 separate electrophysiology (EP) rooms, and a total of 10 intake beds and 10 post procedure beds in the cath lab facility.
Also, in our facility, there is a separate large room for patient registration and another area (with 10 beds) for patient preparation prior to procedure on the same floor as the cath lab location.
Orlando Regional Medical Center
Tell us about your cath lab.
Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) is the only Level I Trauma Center in central Florida. It is the flagship hospital for Orlando Health, an eight-hospital organization. ORMC recently received full accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers’ Accreditation Review Committee. We are the first Level I Trauma Center in Florida to receive this designation.
The first cardiac catheterization was performed at ORMC in the mid-1960’s by Dr. Clarence Gilbert. We currently have six state-of-the-art cardiac cath labs. Four of our labs are dedicated to cardiac procedures and two labs are designed to accommodate both cardiac and peripheral procedures. The hospital also has a new endovascular suite utilized by the vascular surgeons.
Central DuPage Hospital’s Interventional Laboratory Department
What is the size of your interventional lab and number of staff?
Our interventional laboratory department is made up of six interventional labs that service cardiac cath, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, interventional neuro-radiology and overflow electrophysiology (EP has a separate, dedicated bi-plane lab). Each clinical specialty has identified a primary lab that can flex to meet other clinical needs as necessary. Patient preparation and recovery for these six labs is provided in our 13-bed holding area, located within the interventional lab department.
Stanford Hospital & Clinics Cath Angio Lab
What is the size of your cath lab facility and the number of staff?
Stanford Hospital & Clinics is located on the beautiful campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. It is about 20 miles north of San Jose and 40 miles south of San Francisco. Stanford Hospital & Clinics is a 479-bed Level I trauma center, a ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) Receiving Center for the county of San Mateo, and a Joint Commission-certified Stroke Center. We achieved Magnet Status in 2007.
Stanford Hospital & Clinics Cath Angio Lab has 12 procedure rooms: 3 biplane rooms, 8 single plane rooms and 1 hybrid room. The Cath Angio lab is a multidisciplinary department, with specialties including adult cardiology, adult electrophysiology, pediatric electrophysiology, pediatric cardiology, interventional radiology, interventional neuroradiology, and vascular surgery. We have a dedicated 9-bed pre-admission unit and 20-bed post-recovery unit.
Geisinger Medical Center
Geisinger Medical Center is a 410-bed, level 1 trauma center in central Pennsylvania. We have been designated as an Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Chest Pain Centers and have been voted, for the 4th time, one of the nation’s top 100 cardiovascular hospitals by Thomson Reuters. We recently obtained Magnet designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Our hospital was founded in 1915 and is one of the largest rural healthcare facilities in the United States. Our care spans through 40 counties, reaching 2.5 million residents of central and northeast Pennsylvania.

St. Joseph Mercy Oakland
St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) is a 443-bed, Pontiac, Michigan-based, comprehensive, community and teaching hospital that continues to receive awards of excellence in medicine. Our clinical and high-quality outcomes rank among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide. The SJMO Heart Institute was recognized by Thomson Reuters as a national Top 100 Heart Hospital, and SJMO was named a Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network Cardiac Center of Excellence.
Tell us about your cath lab and staff.
St. Anthony’s Hospital
What is the size of your cath lab facility and number of staff members?
St. Anthony’s Hospital has three cath labs. Two inpatient cath labs offer a six-bed holding and recovery area. One lab is used primarily for peripheral interventions and the other for cardiac procedures. A third cath lab, located in an attached medical office building, is dedicated to outpatients. The outpatient cath lab has six individual admission-recovery rooms, offering patient comfort features in each room that include step-down areas, reclining chairs, flat-screen TVs and if time allows, a served lunch.
Staffing is optimal with four full-time and three per-diem (prn) registered nurses (RNs), two prn licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and five full-time and three prn cardiovascular technologists. Experience ranges from 3 to 25 years, and includes a manager with 23 years of cath lab experience.

Johnson City Medical Center: Center for Cardiovascular Health
What is the size of your cath lab staff and facility?
Johnson City Medical Center’s Center for Cardiovascular Health has a total of six cath labs, with one dedicated to electrophysiology (EP) procedures. There is a 32-bed holding room and the 34-member staff includes 25 registered nurses (RNs), with the remaining bulk of the staff being cath lab technologists. Each lab is staffed with one RN and two technologists. The RNs are specialty-trained for the cath lab and the technologists are certified as registered cardiac invasive specialists (RCISs).
Located in the heart of the southern Appalachia Mountains near the Tennessee/North Carolina/Virginia borders, Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC) is a teaching hospital and serves as tertiary center for 29 counties throughout four states. JCMC is the flagship facility for Mountain States Health Alliance (MSHA), a 15-hospital healthcare system with locations in Tennessee and Virginia.
Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital
What is the size of your cath lab facility and number of staff members?
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital is comprised of five cardiac suites, one cardiac/peripheral suite, and one endovascular suite. We are in the process of renovating one of the cath lab suites, which will function as a combo cardiac/peripheral suite.
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital’s cath lab has a combination of registered nurses (RNs), registered cardiac invasive specialists (RCISs), and radiologic technologists (RTs).
We have a total of 38 staff: 21 RNs (12 full-time, 2 part-time and 1 PRN), 7 RCISs (5 full-time, 1 part-time and 1 PRN), and 10 RTs (8 full-time, 1 PRN and 1 team leader).
Our team members have an array of length of experience, ranging from one to thirty years. Our electrophysiology (EP) department has a dedicated staff that operates independently from the cath lab.
Holston Valley Medical Center: Kingsport, Tennessee
What is the size of your cath lab facility and number of staff members?
Holston Valley Medical Center (HVMC), a member of the Wellmont Health System, is a 544-bed facility located in Kingsport, Tennessee. In 2005, and again in 2007, Holston Valley was named one of the nation’s top 100 hospitals for cardiac care by an independent, nationally recognized healthcare information company. Holston Valley is just one of four Tennessee hospitals recognized in Thomson’s 2007 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success. Holston Valley also houses one of only six Level I trauma centers in Tennessee, and is equipped to care for the most critically ill and injured patients.
