RCIS Credential Administrators Hold Annual Board of Trustees Meeting

CCI’s Board of TrusteesElaine Shea, CCI President, with Past President Steve Marmon.CCI''s Board of Trustees.
VOLUME: 14 PUBLICATION DATE: Dec 01 2005

What is Cardiovascular Credentialing International?

Cardiovascular Credentialing International, Inc. (CCI) is a not-for-profit corporation established in September 1988 for the sole purpose of administering credentialing examinations as an independent credentialing agency. CCI is the resultant corporation of the merger of the testing components of the National Alliance of Cardiovascular Technologists (NACT), the American Cardiology Technologists Association (ACTA) and the National Board of Cardiovascular Testing (NBCVT). CCI represents the summation of testing processes for the cardiovascular professional that began in the 1960’s.

For health care providers working in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, CCI administers the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) examination. This credential has been recognized by our own society (the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals, or SICP) as the only credential for professionals working in cardiac catheterization laboratories that tests for all of the knowledge and skills that are necessary to do so. The RCIS is also recognized by the two physician organizations that most impact our field of practice: The American College of Cardiology and The Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions.

The RCIS credential administered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International is only one of three elements of our professional triad. All professions must have a representative society, a credential, and organized education.

As our credentialing body, CCI is tasked with the ongoing review of functions that cardiovascular professionals perform daily. This is accomplished by performing a nationwide job analysis on a recurring basis. Holders of the RCIS credential are randomly selected by geographic location and sent a questionnaire inquiring as to their scope of practice and the type of activities that they perform. If you receive such a questionnaire, please do your best to answer the questions in an honest and prompt manner. Only with the input of professionals can CCI continue to advance the RCIS credential.

Mike Jones and David Cox from Pearson Education presented an overview on psychometrics and how psychometrics is used to validate the CCI online examinations. They also detailed results from the examinations for the Exam Chairs.

All of the represented professional societies presented reports on their respective society. This included membership numbers, society activities, and advocacy issues.
