Industry Sponsorship: The SICP wishes to extend our continued appreciation and thanks Boston Scientific for their generous donation to SICP™s Review Course Program. Through a grant by Boston Scientific, SICP was able to conduct eight Educational or Registry Review Courses in 2005. Without this generous support, the facilities would have incurred a greater cost. We're proud to accept their continued support in 2006 for the Registry Review Courses.

Thanks to Boston Scientific for their continued support of the SICP and our Review Course program.

Hamot Medical Center (Erie, PA) RCIS Review Course Recap: SICP conducted a two-day RCIS review course March 18-19, 2006 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. Course instructors were Marsha Holton, BS,CCRN, RCIS, FSICP and Todd Ginapp, EMTP, RCIS, FSICP. After a short tour of the impressive cath lab facilities, the instructors began the task of preparing this group of twenty-five for the RCIS exam.

A few participants who were RCIS-credentialed contributed to the group discussion. Their input regarding the exam process was invaluable for the other students.

Topics covered by the instructor over the course of both days were cardiovascular anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, hemodynamics, congenital defects, cath lab equipment & procedures, interventional procedures, radiology & radiation safety, pharmacology, exam matrix review & test-taking tips, calculations in the cath lab, patient assessment and 12-lead usage in AMI.

The course is exhausting for the participants and the instructors, but with the quantity and quality of information presented and absorbed, participants were able to gain knowledge that will assist them with their personal self-study. The Hamot Medical Center participants were very interactive, had good questions and excellent conversations ensued. The motivation and dedication of this group of people is admirable.

The instructors wish to thank Tim Grode and the Hamot Medical Center, for the great teaching environment. The function space and audio/visual equipment were perfect. Also, they wish to voice their appreciation to the cafeteria staff for the generous refreshments and delicious lunches.

Tim Grode, Director of the Hamot Cardiac Cath Lab, stated, Any time I ask my staff to give up their weekend to learn, it is a risk. Will it be worthwhile? Will they enjoy the speakers? Will Hamot get their money™s worth? I can absolutely say that you made it all happen. It was a productive weekend in that they learned a great deal and the fear of the test is decreased. Thanks again for all your support.

SICP wishes to thank the Hamot Medical Center and participants for a wonderful weekend. Best wishes on your RCIS registry exam!

The HMC RCIS Review Course was a closed course only for HMC employees. If you are interested in information regarding hosting a course at your facility, please contact Nicole Shore at director@sicp.com or (919) 861-4546.
