SICP's Annual Meeting
The SICP's SoCal Symposium was held September 20-23, 2006 at at San Diego's Kona Kai Resort.
I would like to give a huge thank you to all of the participants at our national SICP symposium. I had a great time! Nicole and Angela (FirstPoint Management Resources) did a wonderful job. Kudos to the speakers for pulling it all together. Darren Powell, thanks for taking your EKG dance on the road. A special thank-you to our physician speakers: Morton Kern MD, David Fish MD, Waqar Khan MD and Neal Reisman MD, JD. Thank you for your support and continuing education of cath lab personnel.
Congratulations to the surprised Marsha Holton RN, BS, CCRN, RCIS, FSICP upon receiving the Pioneer Award. I would also like to acknowledge our industry partners: Terumo, Datascope, Medtronic, Radi, CCI, Cordis Cardiology, The Medicines Company, Merit Medical, GE Healthcare, Abbott Vascular, St. Jude Medical, and Edwards Lifesciences for their generous support. SICP Chapter News
The Oregon Chapter of the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals held their monthly meeting on September 21, 2006. Cath lab professionals from the Oregon Heart and Vascular Institute and Oregon Cardiology Diagnostic Center attended the educational evening.
A special thanks to Medtronic for sponsoring the evening. Medtronic representative Neil Lancaster presented Cardiac Pacing and the Mysteries of Conduction. Rave reviews were received on this most interesting and informative topic.
Our next meeting is scheduled for November 16, 2006. This is a very important meeting calling for officer nominations. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. For further information, please contact Todd Chitwood at: tc (at) oregonsicp.com.

SICP Excellence Award Sponsored by Terumo Interventional Systems
The Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals is excited to announce the inaugural year of the SICP Excellence Award sponsored by Terumo Interventional Systems (Somerset, NJ). This annual award will recognize excellence in the invasive cardiovascular profession. The SICP focuses on recognizing the importance of the non-physician invasive cardiovascular professionals in the cath lab. This award gives the SICP an opportunity to recognize these special individuals and the facility in which they work.
Gary Clifton, Marketing Manager, announced, Terumo is very excited and honored to be part of the SICP and their mission to bring education and training to their membership through their varied programs and initiatives. We feel it is essential to identify and recognize excellence in the allied health professionals who are an integral part of the cardiac catheterization teams. Terumo is looking forward to a lasting and meaningful relationship that will bring value to both of our organizations.
This year™s award theme will be Excellence in Promoting Community Involvement and Participation With the SICP. Please submit nominees to director@sicp.com.
Award Requirements
Nominee must be a current SICP member of two (2) or more consecutive years credentialed as an RCIS.
Nominee should be peer-nominated “ nomination deadline is January 1, 2007.
Nominee should show evidence of their involvement with the SICP, their local community, and promoting the SICP within their work environment.
Nominee will be required to submit an essay describing how their involvement has affected them and their practice. Essays due no later than April 30, 2007.
Nominee will be selected by committee review and winner announced in May.
Award Winners
Award Recipient will receive the award at the SICP™s annual meeting in 2007 (location to be announced).
Recipient™s expenses will be covered by Terumo Interventional Systems.
SICP will sponsor the recipient™s registration fee.
In addition, Terumo Interventional Systems will award the recipient a $5,000 educational credit to be used by the recipient™s cath lab to promote education.
