SICP President's Message

VOLUME: 15 PUBLICATION DATE: Jan 01 2007
Issue Number:
1

SICP members receive a complimentary subscription of Cath Lab Digest. The society also provides the opportunity for members to submit articles to be published in CLD which can lead to fellowship status in the SICP.

It is an exciting time to be involved with the SICP. The Society provides its members with several meeting and convention opportunities each year by partnering with other organizations. This allows for additional CEU opportunities for our members at affordable prices. SICP offered several RCIS Review Courses in 2006 and has a great lineup for 2007! The annual meeting in San Diego provided invasive cardiovascular professionals a great educational experience, as well as networking opportunities. We are in the process of selecting a site for the 2007 SICP meeting which will be held in the fall.

The SICP chapter initiative continues to grow. New chapters have recently formed in Wisconsin and Ohio. Congratulations to all the chapters who did a great job through 2006. As a member, this is YOUR society, get involved! Regional participation is very important to the Society. Chapters provide education, networking, and additional CEU opportunities as well as help monitor legislative issues at a local level. If you are interested in finding out more about forming a chapter in your area, please contact me at ljcathnurs@houston.rr.com. I am always happy to hear from you. The SICP recently began chapter conference calls for chapter leaders and those interested in forming chapters. Our next call will be January 18th, 7pm (Central Time). To sign up for the call, please contact Nicole Shore, SICP Executive Director, by email at director@sicp.com.

The SICP is a member of the Alliance for Quality Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy, a coalition of over 20 organizations who advocate the introduction and enactment of the federal Consumer Assurance of Radiologic Excellence (CARE) Act. Our participation has continued to ensure the recognition of the RCIS credential in this legislation. Inclusion of the RCIS demonstrates recognition that the credential meets minimum educational and credentialing standards in our area of practice.

The SICP board of directors is a volunteer group of cath lab professionals, nominated and elected on by the SICP membership. The board has recently been restructured to improve functionality. The SICP strives to provide its members with the most up-to-date and essential educational material, strong government and legislative advocacy, and an opportunity to be involved in society decisions. If you are interested in becoming more active, please let us know. We welcome your participation. Contact information is at www.sicp.com.

To renew membership or join SICP, please go online to www.sicp.com. If you have any questions about membership or SICP, please contact our membership coordinator, Angela Bergevin at membership@sicp.com or call 919-787-5181, ext. 246.

I am always happy to hear from members. The SICP exists for you. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please contact me at ljcathnurs@ houston.rr.com

We look forward to another great year!

Lynne Jones, RN, RCIS, FSICP
