Bring the Cardiovascular Review Exam Course to your cath lab!

If your facility has an interest in sponsoring a weekend Cardiovascular Review Exam Course for cardiac cath support staff, their cardiologists or cardiology fellows, contact Marsha Holton, Cardiovascular Orientation Programs, by email at marshasicp@ aol.com or by phone at (301) 283-6834. Ms. Holton, an internationally known speaker, is scheduled to speak on “Pharmacology” and “How to Manage Patients with Contrast Media Sensitivities and Reactions” at the Ninth Annual Conference of the National Society of Radiology Practitioner Assistants (NSRPA) in Las Vegas, Nevada, February 10-12, 2008, among other engagements. Information about this conference can be obtained from the NSRPA website, www.radiologypa.org.

In addition to this 16-hour workshop, Ms. Holton and Wes Todd offer a 12-week computer-based cardiac cath lab staff training program interactively performed with Mr. Todd’s five-volume book, Todd’s Cardiovascular Review Book, A Comprehensive of CV Exams. The complete text is available on CD. The book covers anatomy, calculations, cardiovascular science, diagnostic techniques, hemodynamics, interventional procedures, invasive procedures, pathophysiology, and sample practice exams. For information on Mr. Todd’s text, contact him at Wes Todd, Cardiac Self Assessment, wes@westodd.com, or by phone at (509) 926-0344.

Who should take the RCIS exam?
Advanced practice registered nurses (APRN-BC), cardiovascular technologists, physicians, certified physician assistants (PA-C), radiologic technologists, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, nationally certified EMT-Ps, and other certified allied health workers who work in invasive and interventional cardiology settings are eligible to take the RCIS examination, if they meet the standards and qualifications set forth by the testing organization. After having attended this review course for the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) RCIS examination, we recommend that any ARRT-registered radiologic technologists, international certified radiographers, and radiology practitioner assistants (RPAs) certified by the Certification Board of Radiology Practitioner Assistants (CBRPA) who are employed in cardiac catheterization labs, consider taking this internationally recognized examination.

Visit Cardiovascular Credentialing International at www.cci-online.org, or call (919) 862-4539 for information on the RCIS examination.

If radiologic technologists certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) wish to take the ARRT Cardiac-Interventional exam, contact the ARRT by phone at (651) 687-0048, or through their website, www.arrt.org.

If any cardiac cath member wishes to join the Society of Invasive Professionals (SICP), contact the SICP by email at membership@sicp.com, or by phone at (919) 861-4546.

Finally, if anyone has an interest in becoming a cardiovascular technologist or if a facility is seeking excellent cardiovascular technologists for open positions, contact Darren Powell, RCIS, FSICP, Program Director, Invasive Cardiovascular Technology Program, Spokane, Washington, by e-mail at dpowell@scc.spokane.edu or by phone at (509) 533-7306.
