The Role of HD-IVUS in Optimizing Patient Outcomes

Abstract/Summary:

A vast amount of clinical data has uncovered the limitations of using angiography alone for the optimization of PCI procedures and the benefits of using Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) in terms of improving clinical outcomes.

In this CEU program moderated by two experts in the field of intra-vascular imaging, Dr. Massoud Leesar from the University of Alabama and Dr. Ziad Ali from Columbia University, you will learn more about the limitations of angiography and the benefits of IVUS in the PCI setting.

In addition to a review of the clinical data, you will learn more about the concept of optimal stent expansion. You will also be provided with practical tools such as a simple PCI optimization protocol, using IVUS to help optimizing stent expansion.

A new technology is presented, called High Definition IVUS, which provides a better image quality over traditional IVUS and improved workflow features, like superfast pullback and a touchpanel interface. Several case examples are presented demonstrating how HD-IVUS can be used in the setting of complex PCI and how it compares to other imaging modalities.

Accreditation Information:

This instructor-based activity is recognized for ONE (1.0) hour of continuing education credit; California Board of Registered Nursing Credit provider #CEP12084; California Pre-hospital (EMT-P) CE provider #65-0537.

• These CE Credits are recognized for registered nurses and other licensed healthcare providers.

• This document must be retained for a period of four (4) years.

• Physician assistants (PAs) can apply Category 2 CME for practice-related activities per the National Commission on Certification of the Physician Assistants policy (NCCPA).

Upon completion of this activity, the healthcare professional will be able to:

• Identify clinical data supporting IVUS in PCI

• List specific clinical evidence of the value of IVUS in complex PCI, ex Left Main, Multi-vessel, CKD, CTO interventions

• List the specifications of High Definition IVUS

• Describe how High Definition IVUS compares to regular IVUS and OCT (Images and workflow)

• Describe how High Definition IVUS specifically helps guiding (for example: Left Main, Multi-vessel, CKD, CTO interventions)

• Describe the utility of IVUS in the current era of drug-eluting stenting

• Describe the challenges of optimal stent expansion, given recent trials

• Define optimal stent expansion by IVUS

• Describe a novel technique of optimal stent expansion by IVUS vs. angiography

• Describe the IVUS data with a novel technique of IVUS expansion

Supported by an educational grant from ACIST Medical Systems.
